In fact I think we need a new thread started on insurance adjusters who have had claims on their own homes and how the process unfolded along with the results of their claim. Were you as an adjuster able to influence the claims process of the adjuster sent to your home? Lets hear some stories adjusters.

followed this thread to "let me help you measure all those cabinets !!!!" now I am really confused.

My thoughts on the experience of turning in a claim if you are an adjuster is Don't Tell Them A $&$@ Thing. Farmers used it against me on every turn. Play stupid, pump up the staff adjusters ego. When you call play stupid, complain, whine cry but "don't tell". It was my experience staff adjusters did not care for cat adjusters.

One persons dream is another persons nightmare.

I was insured with Farmers and had a major water loss. Staff adjuster comes out, takes his measurements and completes the scope. Says he'll get back with me on estimate. Both floors flooded. Poor adjuster got his room measurements backwards. Had to give him the correct room measurements. Took about 25% depreciation. All rooms were getting new carpet. Cut me the ACV amount. Girlfriend and I go carpet shopping. Get different type of color and quality in each room. Blew about $3000 over the RC of carpet allowed. Sent him the final bill from the carpet shop. Adjuster cuts a check for the difference between ACV and final carpet bill. Like I went from being allowed $22 sy to $35 sy carpet. I told adjuster I was a former employee/adjuster of Mother Farmers when he initially came out and so forth. Didn’t seem to impress him at the time. I just think he forget to review his estimate before he cut me a check. Anyway, I only have insurance with large carriers because they basically only use trainees. They run off all of the seasoned and experienced adjusters with all of their paperwork nonsense.

I had a foundation claim a few years ago with State Farm. I was a Quality Evaulator (Re-inspector) with Allstate at the time. (I know it sounds funny but my wife wanted to stay with our State Farm agent when I went to work for Allstate, plus if she had to hollar and cuss at someone, she didn't want to see them at the Christmas party!) Anyway, State Farm treated me great! They never even sent anyone out. I picked the leak detection company, the engineer and when it came time for the interior cosmetics, the handling adjuster called me on the phone and I walked through the house telling him where the cracks were and the room sizes.

I had the perfect opportunity to get anything I wanted but it comes back to what I said in my post about impact resistant shingles, I like to be able to look myself in the mirror each morning so honesty and integrity ruled the day.

Had a hail claim about 10 yrs ago and left my work # as the best way to reach me on it. Had a 10/12 pitch and light damages on a couple slopes. Got the call from the adj and he noted that I worked for an Ins Co by the way they answered the phone. He asked what I did there and I told him I was the Property Claim Supervisor and he spent more time asking me about my job and company then about the claim. Said he would go ahead and use their preferred contractor program on our claim. Next call he stated that there was very light damages to the arch. shingles, but they are going to go ahead and total it out.. IMHO there was nothing to a couple of the slopes, and the other two were very light bruising to them on 10 year old 25 yr shingles. Didn't complain and put a new roof on. Had a blast dealing with one of the PA's calling me trying to get some business though.

I have a work comp claim still pending with Hartford Insurance. Fell off a roof two summers ago and broke my heel. Was off work for six months. I had a policy with Hartford as sole proprietor. I promptly reported the claim to myself and phoned the company. I was promptly paid my TTD (at the maximum rate) for a time. I accurately reported my income for the past 52 weeks. The company wanted to see copies of my 1040's so they could verify my income. OK so far. I could only send in 26 weeks as I hadn't filed my tax return for the current year and that was where the bulk of my income was. The claims rep. saw the income for the first 26 weeks and all of a sudden surmized that I was ripping them off and owed them money as she somehow came up with the mistaken notion that I had been overpaid on the TTD. Then things really got strange as she (the claims rep.) wanted to discuss my expenses as if that had anything to do with a WC claim. I informed her that this was a WC claim not a business interruption. Average weekly wage is based on gross income. It is the same gross income that is reported to them annually when they calculate my premiums. Anyway they paid my TTD but have not paid one cent on my PPD. Have an attorney as I simply did not want to fool with the thing any longer. Still an ongoing story. The point is adjusters have claims problems too.

It's the modern way, go to school, and start as a senior experienced adjuster telling those fools in the field how the text book says it's done.
