State Farm now has over 100 cat adjusters on assignment in Dallas from 3 vendors. Usually you can take the number of SF cat and multiply by 3 to 4 and that is the size of the storm measured by number of adjusters on that particular storm.

I SPOKE WITH THE ASST. MGR. W/ A MAJOR CAT. FIRM YESTERDAY, HE ADVISED ME HIS NUMBERS ARE NOT THAT GREAT ON THE DFW STORM, USING FIVE ADJS. W/ AVG OF 35 TO 45 LOSSES (PROPERTY). COULD BE A "PUT-OFF" BUT I DON'T THINK SO.

Storm Chaser is correct. This DFW storm will not be near the 95' storm. I have lived in the DFW area my entire life, and have worked hailstorms here as an adjuster since 1986. We have had decent little storms in 89, 90, 91, 92, 94, and 96. Had this storm last week went more north into deep Plano where the roofs are big, steep, and extremely cut-up, then we would be looking at more severity. I heard 18,000 homes expected by State Farm here. If history repeats itself then expect those numbers to double by the spring once neighboritis and roofers increase awareness. But then again, who knows!

The latest storm to hit the Metroplex has no chance of being the size of 5-5-95. I know we all would like to see another 5-5-95. I believe we might see a strong hail storm this year, but we have not got there yet. The storm is estimated at 100 million. Very small compared to 5-5-95.

The Ft. Worth Hailstorm and Dallas Flash
Flood of May 5, 1995.

Baseball hail pummeled 10,000 people at
Mayfest in Ft. Worth, injuring 108 people, some
seriously. Torrential rain, 3.5 inches in 30
minutes, at Dallas, caused massive flooding and
17 flash flood deaths. Total damage from the
hail and flooding amounted to over 1.2 billion,
the costliest hail storm in U.S. history.

Exerpt from Ft. Worth NWS web site. Wonder if this new storm is bigger than the old most expensive hail storm. Any takers? Good odds.
