In recent years it seems that Krispy Kreme Doughnuts have become very very popular everywhere. The little buggers seem to have an almost cult following.
Having moved to NC from the Phlly area a number of years ago I myself am partial to Dunkin Donuts. These Southern boys are girls however think Krispy Kremes are the best.
Personally I think the Krispy's have too much sugar in them and not enough bulk. You can eat two Dunkin's in the morning and you will be set until lunchtime.
Let's here what you think...

For a lot of years, I thought the sun rose and set over the Tim Horton donut chain. They were by far the biggest and best up here, leaps and bounds ahead of Dunkin Donut.

Then by the grace of the heavens, I was introduced to Krispy kremes in the USA - wow!!! They are in my opinion the absolute best sweetums in the world.

As Krispy Kreme has come to a 'corner near me' with their expansion into Canada, Tim Horton's is coming to a 'corner near you' with their expansion into the USA. You will likely find that the TH chain, far surpasses Dunkin, but is a distant second to KK.

Who cares if two Dunkins holds till noon, eat six KK's for the same relief.

For the life of me, I cann't figure out how to 'vote' in this 'poll forum', I click every button I can see and get no relief.

By edit, thanks 'inside' for fixing that, and helping me feel less of a mechanical illiterate.

I would be surprised if I can find anyone to side with me on this one.
I think the Kreme is going to overflow...
Anyway, I would take a "true" New York bagel over the doughnuts any day.

*true NY = not outside the NY metropolitan area. Spare me the Manhatten Bagel, Big Apple chains all over the country. They are clueless. Something about the NY water supply.

A lot depends on the franchise, how ever KKs seem to be more consistant. I don't pass up a doughnut with my coffee and if it is near, much the better.

'Inside', the best bagels in North America are made in the old part of Montreal and NYC metro; via the traditional boil and wood fired oven bake mode.

Reason is pretty straightforward, from the St. Lawrence River, water flows via the Richileau River south to the Hudson River drainage, where it dilutes the soup in NYC area.

However, a KK or 3, (mention them to stay on topic) is still better while on the move, as a bagel is great, but only magnificent when it is lathered in melting butter and copious amounts of real cream cheese, which is as sloppy as chomping on chicken wings while mobile.

I think only people in the south Louisiana area will know what I'm talking about, but we used to have a chain called Tastee Donuts and I still think they were the best. To me Krispy Kreme taste stale. They aren't the soft, hot, sticky creations that we used to get at the yellow roofed Tastee Donuts, but between Krispy and Dunkin, I will pick Dunkin any day.

When I was a young man I always worked mowing lawns, helping dad, etc, but when I reached the legal age of 15, I went out in search of my first "real" paying job. My journey into the employment market led me to, the great one... DD, I would have been the happiest buckaroo in the city, had I landed that job, but it was not to be...they hired a older retired guy (?? retired adjuster ??). But they still they have the best donuts and I am a loyal customer. Who knows, I still may end up at DD for my next job. Never rule anything out.

Hey all you southern boys. What ever happened to biscuits and gravy? Living in the boondocks of Arkansas, donut shops are few and far between.
But for a quick sugar fix, nothing like biscuits with chocolate gravy.

As long as they are hot and fresh, be it bagles, english muffins or doughnuts it makes no difference to me. I even like hot Italian or french bread right out of the oven, with lots of real butter or cream cheese.
I just had a hunger pain. I'm going to the kitchen.

The State of North Carolina since the war of northern aggression always supports and votes for krispy kreme. Dunkin is just another yankee standard forced upon us. Now with Nafta i guess we can see Canadian dougnuts. Hmm does Mexico make dougnuts? Now that is a scary thought.

AHHHH! It was a hot apple fritter...and a cup of coffee. But only from this long gone bakery across the street from my grand-parents house in Madill, Oklahoma.

Ya see, you went and got a bag and brought 'em in to add a smear of fresh country butter to the top and lightly heated them one more time in the grandmas oven. This let the butter soak in and put a hint of crusting to the top.

A plate, a fork, coffee, the Madill Record newspaper on a frosty Saturday morning, and that fritter in the company of my ancestors. That's a memory worth saving.

I was disappointed to see this thread was about which brand is better. When I saw, "hmmm... donuts" I thought immediately of my favorite cartoon dad, Homer Simpson. I am a big Simpson's fan and was glad to see they just finished their 300th episode! I even have the Simpson's theme song programmed as the ring on my cell phone.

And to stay on topic... a KK w/ bavarian creme filling and chocolate on top is best, w/ a Dr. Pepper on the side!

I'll bet that makes you want to do 10 in a day doesn't it Jennifer?

You named my 2 favorites as well. No better way to start the day for my poor pathetic 5 or 6.

Pathetic 5 or 6? huh... that's a great average if you want to keep your sanity. I have done 10 before, but never do I get the entire file closed in that day. And you know, if I eat that donut, I usually regret it a hour or so later, so I try to only go to KK if I have a light day, or for desert at night.
