Canduss,
Put me down on that list too.
Someone needs to keep Bryan Newell from hanging himself.
Plus I'd like to see him throw a ball over a two story roof with a rope trailing behind it. I prefer the fishing pole gimmick myself.

Steve,

The fishing pole is a nice trick, I have one in my vehicle, as well as the tennis ball, which works great for the one story. By the way, if you didn't throw like a girl, you might be able to get the ball over the roof. Be careful in Coulumbus dude.

I am working R&H right now in Plano, Tx for double base. It seems to be working out nicely. However, the vendor that I am working for is giving us free help in return for us training these individuals. Next storm may be different if we have to pay our ground help.

I am very interested in doing doing "steep". I have attended a basic rock climbing course at REI and now have a basic understanding of the equipment use. However, I really would like to have some real-life instruction from someone who does this on a regular basis. I have a partner to team up with and we both like to hear from anybody out there that could give me/us some advise in this area. Thanks, Trey Simmons; East Texas area independent adjuster. jcsimmons3@aol.com

Canduss, add mine as well. Scott Poston, (843) 229-1678 I service east coast. Expenses plus 2x only for R&H. And as someone else eluded above. Yes these claims generally take the better part of a day and NO you will never get anyone on STAFF out to look much less gear up and get on the roof. LOL...I might even waive the fee if I could get one to hang out with me up there all day.

Okay, my tip of the day. Take a Rod & Reel with you. Only take the weight off the end so you dont toss it over the house and knock out a window. Instead tie a tennis ball to the end. Usually accomplished by punching a hole in the tennis ball and once over go around to the end over the home and tie your rope to it. Works like magic and saves a ton of time.

I use a rod and reel with the ball, but put the ball in a net bag. If the ball hits the far slope it bounces off the roof. Use a funnell on the end of the rope and it will help guide it on to the slope.

Since I have broken silence...
No one mentioned the small fact that going up is 4x as easy as going down a 12/12. Young adjusters can really get hurt on even 10/12 by thinking that decent is as easy as ascent.

I go to optics and digiscope for steep roof inspections and for "rate" I pass 12/12 in person. If you have not played with digiscope then introduce yourself by holding your digital camera up to your binoculars some time. Then consider the next step.

If you can't see the damage with good optics or from the eve then you likely will do more damage than good by being there.

But my experience in the steep and high is more in the barn roof than in the "pretty and weird".

I would rather wait for the contractors cherry picker on re than to just say "I stood there and therefore I know".

Haven't met a 12/12 yet that I can't do with rope and harness. With the right training and keeping your safety in mind, thus taking your time to do the job correctly, you can do practically any roof. Now would I do a 12/12 for the same fee as a 8/12 or other less severe pitch. Absolubtly not! Takes more time, more training and in general just more work. Wouldn't blame anyone for not doing it if they didn't have the proper training.
