Has anyone heard of independents getting sent out on the east coast yet? I only know two guys that are working in PA and that is it as far as I know. Might have missed this one. |

I have heard of 3 flood adjusters who have been sent out to western Virginia, West Virginia and eastern Kentucky; all these adjusters are reporting their claims are widely scattered across multi-county and/or multi-state areas with 20 to 35 claims assigned to each, so far.
I am hearing some reports from the ground that the Lexington, Kentucky area had a lot of trees and limbs down across rooftops.
There are very few or no damages here in the Carolinas from this last ice storm. My best guess is that the local independents and majors (GAB, Crawford, Lindsey) will be getting the bulk of this work, as it is going to be 'scattered' and most of these adjusters are available with low pendings and case loads.
Perhaps some of our CADO readers/cat adjusters in Kentucky, West Virginia and north of Washington, DC can weigh in with their local observations and opinions of the potential for work assignments? |

By what I just saw on the weather channel, there is still alot of ice in KY and still some power outages. The claim reports may be slow coming in and when they do, they could flood in (no pun intended.) |

The Lexington (Ky) Herald Leader is reporting that 47,000 customers are still without power from the ice storm.
Their coverage on the event and damages is extensive and can be found at the link enclosed below.
Hope this helps adjusters interested in working the Kentucky ice storm damages make informed decisions. It might be worth a phone call to some of the local independent adjusting firms in Lexington.

Here is a link to today's Louisville Courier-Journal reporting on the power outages and ice damages in the Lexington area.
From reading the articles on the Louisville and Lexington newspaper websites, and from seeing the photos posted online on the Lexington newspaper website, it would seem that this storm could/should result in several dozen cat adjusters being sent out on storm deployment.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the links Jim and I agree. I could be as late as this weekend before the claims really start coming in. I believe vendors will be hurrying to get people over there, just hope one of them is me. |

Here is a link within the Louisville Courier Journal which discusses insurance coverages and some predictions on claims, and they are suggesting there will be a surge in claims later this week or early next week. They also point out that a lot of insureds as well as agents and claims offices are without power and telephones.
I think this is going to be a much bigger cat event than first anticipated.
Good Luck to you Michael, and all the rest rarin' to go!
Please let me know if I can do anything further to help.

I think the worst is yet to come, keep a close eye on Pa. for flooding, and the south,AR,MS,Al and Tenn. we may have some severe weather in this next front. It hasn't formed yet, if it is an occluded front it will produce some twisters. I look for it Saturday and Sunday. |

Saw on the news tonight that a TV transmision tower in West Virginia colapsed due to the weight of ice. I don't know if there is any other wide spread damage, but you have to think that if a 1000' metal tower can come down, there has to be some trees falling. |

My neighbors son is with the power company and already in Pa. they came over and told me last night. He says there is more snow comming and then they may get some rain later. I think ya'll gonna be busy for a while, because every thing Pa. and south to the Tn. border are going to be in big trouble. The next system due in here this weekend will be heading that way. |

I've heard that Big Red is preparing for a large # of claims to start pouring in by Monday. We'll just have to see. If they get this rain, we may all be working flood. |

Well, for the first time since '96, I have a "back yard" cat..
NOTHING LIKE WORKING OUT OF THE HOUSE....................
Some claims are starting to come in: Got 30+ today and more on the way.
Hey, that rhymes, hope it stays that way for a few months.
We are expecting rain starting Friday and continuing through Saturday night.
This will create some flood losses for sure, as the snow cover is 20-30 inches all over the place.
Lots of collapes, roof leakers and such for now.

Well, congratulations getting to work at home. Nothing like making good money and sleeping in your own bed. Haven't worked a home cat since '99. Hoping to get lucky. |

Watching the weather up here in north Louisiana and it is getting a little bit nasty, but no hail. It appears that east TX got a little, but nothing of size so far. Maybe tonight will be a different story. |
