    Hello everyone!

I have recently gotten my all lines license and looking to get into the business.  My parents drive the mobile offices and my brother has worked a few of the big storms, which is what got me interested in starting myself.

Being that I have no prior experience I was  planning on applying for Allstate or State Farm as I meet all qualifications and like the idea of training, perks and certificates this avenue can bring, however, I have recently learned about RIDE ALONGS.

Is anyone out their willing to have me ride along or better yet put me to work. I'm a quick learner that won't be extra baggage.

I will be heading back to Tampa, FL from out the country in the next few weeks and would prefer the person be in the area, but beggars can't be choosers and I am open to traveling.

Thanks in advance for anyones consideration

Did You Know? A good independent adjuster working CAT claims can easily top $1,000 a day during storm work. Most career CAT adjusters make well over $100,000 a year.

Adam and Daniel at AdjusterPro will help you out, change your mindset so that it matches Adam, and then send you over to Mariposa so that you can make your money back, or not.

"Stay home and make $150,000.00 a year handling property and liability claims in Florida. Our business plan is to give you 10 claims a week averaging $300 per claim. That's $3,000 a week or $150,000.00 a year. We pay 65% of the fee bill to you and all the photo and mileage charges go to the adjuster. Plus a 5% bonus paid monthly if your estimate is in on time and not kicked back. The bonus will pay for your car or truck. We want excellent adjusters only throughout the state of Florida."

This is an actual ad taken from this web site.

Dama….get ready and put your seatbelt on…….

Chuck was being facetious in his post. Most of the “newbies” spend several thousand dollars getting their license and paying for training only to find out the “ pie in the sky” isn’t what they say.

You need to read and do homework on old posts to find information out here. It is valuable. Secondly….you have parents and brother in business???? Why can’t or why aren’t they teaching you and letting you ride along.

Believe me, there is no such thing as a ride along not being the way or taking up time. Teaching and answering questions DOES TAKE TIME, and time is money.

I’ll give you quick starter outline.

    1. Get resume together.
    2. Apply to Eberls, Pilot, Worley, EARenfroe
    3. Whichever of the above allows you train with them …..GO
    4. Take the State Farm certification with them.
    5. Take a starter class with them in Xactimate
    6. Spend money with TopAdjuster.com to take Xactimate level 1 and level 2
    7. Take Xactimate certification test
    8. Wait for big storm to get your chance
    9. KNOW XACTIMATE…….KNOW XACTIMATE before accepting deployment

Lots of reading in old posts to see what has been recommended over the years and read about what storms produced. DO YOUR HOMEWORK while not on road.

    Good Luck !

    Mark

To quote Johnny Cash (and you have to croon this fast to be into the spirit):

I was totin' my pack along the dusty Winnemucca road

When along came a semi with a high and canvas covered load
If you're going to Winnemucca, mack, with me you can ride
So I climbed into the cab and then I settled down inside
He asked me if I'd seen a road with so much dust and sand
And I said, "Listen, I've traveled every road in this here land"

    I've been everywhere, man
    I've been everywhere, man
    Across the deserts bare, man
I've breathed the mountain air, man
Of travel I've had my share, man
    I've been everywhere

I've been to Reno, Chicago, Fargo
    Minnesota, Buffalo, Toronto, Winslow
    Sarasota, Wichita, Tulsa, Ottawa
    Oklahoma, Tampa, Panama
    Mattawa, La Paloma, Bangor
    Baltimore, Salvador, Amarillo
    Tocopilla, Barranquilla and
    Padilla, I'm a killer

    I've been everywhere, man
    I've been everywhere, man
    Across the deserts bare, man
I've breathed the mountain air, man
Of travel I've had my share, man
    I've been everywhere

I've been to Boston, Charleston, Dayton
    Louisiana, Washington, Houston
    Kingston, Texarkana, Monterey, Ferriday
    Santa Fe, Tallahoosa, Glen Rock
    Black Rock, Little Rock, Oskaloosa
    Tennessee, Hennessey, Chicopee Spirit Lake

Grand Lake, Devil's Lake, Crater Lake, for Pete's sake

    I've been everywhere, man
    I've been everywhere, man
    Across the deserts bare, man
I've breathed the mountain air, man
Of travel I've had my share, man
    I've been everywhere

    I've been to Louisville, Nashville

    Pittsfield, Springfield, Bakersfield
    Shreveport, Hackensack, Cadillac
Fond Du Lac, Davenport, Idaho, Jellicoe

    I've been everywhere, man
    I've been everywhere, man
    Across the deserts bare, man
I've breathed the mountain air, man
Of travel I've had my share, man

LOL thanks for that! I figured the first comment was.Thank you for the outline it will be helpful if I decide to go that route.

My parents drive the mobile offices and haven't worked in the field for 5 or so years. My brother does it every so often and if he goes again I would go with him.  Just trying to get a jump start. I'm poking though the forum trying to see if I can scare myself from the business, learning the good, the bad, and the ugly

I've also thought about working for Allstate of State Farm, however I would only want to be employed MAX 1 year, so I would prefer to be able to get the experience riding along.   I know there are travel perks, free training, and certifications. I have a college degree and speak Spanish, so I shouldn't have much trouble getting a job...... I would hope. I also don't want my parents to referral me considering I would plan on quitting once a big storm hit and I was comfortable with the job. Any advice or comments going this route.

I am looking into the Xactimate courses now.

    Thanks for the tips :)

Thanks, Husker Guy. I can identify. Glad I didn't have to listen to you sing it, though.

You aren't alone...I can't carry a tune in a bucket! But I heard that song on the radio, it got stuck in my head like they tend to do, and seemed appropriate.  I don't know if Larry's parlor is in any of those places, but maybe we'll hear about it.
