Not claim related, but we are having the hardest time trying to figure out what the heck these metal clip-like pieces are for.  Anyone have a clue?  They are spaced out randomly on the tile benches and raised walls outside a building here in Florida.  The clips do not move, are bolted from the top but also do not attach along the edge like it would seem.

I would hazard to guess that was where an ancient structure known as a pay phone was once secured in place.  Remember those?

A Pay Phone, is that where we would go in the morning to change into our adjusting costumes?

I remember trying to use one for those in very rural Penn. and could not get an operator to help on a call. Turns out the guy who owned the local phone company was on lunch break.

I want to die peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming in terror like his passengers.

Those things are "skateboard prevention". They are to deter skateboarders from using the edge of benches, raised planters, and railings.

Public entities and business do that to reduce the liability of someone getting hurt on their property. Makes it less of an invitation for someone to do crazy stuff on a skateboard. The ones in your photo are obviously a retrofit.

I could think of a better & more obvious deterrent to avoid liability.  But good to see the "Bob" chiming in. Been awhile.

Couldn't help it, I just had to post one more time...now it's 757 apiece.  Your turn?  Or not, since this has been a very quiet place lately?

Yeah, they look pretty crude. Anything to keep the skateboard from sliding along the edge.

When I was a kid in the '60s we kept the wheels on the ground. Now they fly along handrails, you name it.

I have been super busy - and also not posting much to avoid mention of vendors, specific insurance companies, etc.

I think we were both guessing and having some fun.  At least, I was...should be a bigger bump to deter a skateboarder, maybe ankle or shin high??  I'll stick with my original thought--a phone booth, or maybe a bus stop bench on the corner.

Do an internet search with 2 words- skateboard deterrents

Click on images, see the examples.
One of the vendors says this: SKATESTOPPERS® skate deterrents are specially designed brackets that deter unwanted skateboarding/biking by eliminating the long, smooth edges that skaters and bikers seek out. In effect, they are speed bumps for your walls, handrails, curbs, etc
    -------
I am amazed by the stunts that skateboarders do. When I was a kid we just kept the wheels on the ground.
