I have used a fanny pack, tried cargo pants, but I prefer Target khaki pants (much cooler than jeans in the summer). My pitch gauge fits in one back pocket, my 100' tape in the other back pocket, the laser and regular tape go on my belt and my Canon SD1000 goes in my front pocket.

I had spent $85 on a tool belt in 2005 that was "sort of" working for me, but I always had an issue with where to put my clipboard and claim file. For years I had a thin laptop bag with a shoulder strap - and that worked "OK" with the tool belt but not ideal.

I was sort of reluctant to spend the money for the
"Cat-Man-Do" tool belt as it sort of duplicated what I already spent $85 on, but I was very happy with how it held the clipboard. He got the angle just right, and for that alone it was worth it for me. I have been using it for about 3 months during a busy winter storm season and have never been this organized. There are pouches that work with my old bulky laser meter, 100' tape, camera, etc. I moved the hammer-loop thing from my other tool belt to the "Cat-Man-Do" and that keeps my moisture probe if it's a water loss, or roll-o-tape.

The guy supports this site, and seems very focused on making a good product. I don't know him and am not advertising for him, but am a happy customer.

His site also sells the Ladder-Max Stand Off Stabilizer, which I find very helpful to avoid denting gutters.  If you are placing an order you might consider looking at the other stuff, acculine, etc.

I have a Cat man do belt and so far I am not impressed with the quailty. The water bottle holder and small pouch ripped after a couple of uses and even thought they sent me new ones. The belt is ripping in different areas. I do like the set up and like you I find it handy to hold the clip board... I wish it had more pockets .. I am toying with the idea of getting a  framers belt due to the pocket locations and size to hold my tape in one and lazer measurer in another... Plus everything I like to carry.

Yeah, that alone made it worthwhile for me. Nothing's broke on mine or even showing signs of wear, and I put in some very long hours since Thanksgiving.

When I get caught up, I am going to mix and match some of the other tool belt components and fine-tune the system. I just really like the clipboard holder, with the cover that folds over your grid paper to keep it from getting messed up from being shoved into the holder.

Galls Tactical T-111 pants are the way to go for holding a multitude of items comfortably. Janice and I both wear them and have for a number of years and they have yet to wear out. They are only $39.95 and galls have shirts to match with dual pockets and an O-ring. The rear large pockets hold a 100' tape easily and the leg pockets hold a 50', and disto. Here is the web site and page.

Tom, where do you put your clipboard and claim file while walking around a site? Every now and then I would set mine down and forget where, or you get a house full of black smoke and can't set it on anything.

I had a very thin laptop bag with shoulder strap that worked great for years, but I kept putting too much in the side pocket and it got bulky. In 2005 I got a "framers tool belt" to carry the bulky stuff and the thin shoulder bag for my clipboard and claim file.

Now I am just using the CatManDo belt, and unless I need a tape recorder or something I just leave my other junk in the van. I am going to check out those pants with "pocket city".

    To each his own ......................

I don't carry a clip board or claim file while scoping a loss. Too much stuff to try to corral in these mild Oklahoma breezes.

I do carry a green steno pad, the one with the spring across the top, and it tucks in the back of my belt leaving both hands free to access and egress any roof or situation where I would like to have my hands free of clutter.

My camera is on a lanyard around my neck and I carry my tape on a magnetic holder on my belt.

I suppose I could get one o' them three legged roller things like a mailman might use but .......................

I, bought a clip on tool belt Husky brand at home depo, it was $10.00. It fits all my tools and has a clip that I attach my clipboard on when climing on and off the roof. The best $10.00 I have ever spent and it clips right off when Im done.

I tried hanging a clipboard off a hook - clip and occasionally had the papers fall out of the clip (a disaster during one of Larry's "mild" breezes). Maybe you have a stronger clip - but when I set my clipboard down it has to go in a thin shoulder bag or the CatManDo pouch thing or I am toast.

If it works for you - don't change a thing. I just know I personally will never walk around with an exposed clipboard on my side.

Carrying the camera on the lanyard works great, hands-free, no bulgy pocket, and it can't slide down off the roof if you set it down.  Still had one downside though with swinging & banging it off the rungs of the ladder, so I laced an alligator clip onto the camera strap eyelet  & clipped it to my shirt or belt.  Problem solved.

I just carry a backpack. I keep my clipboard, tapes, laser, camera, chalk, pitch gauge, etc. inside which keeps my hands free while climbing. Once on the roof, I just hang it on a plumbing stack or against a vent. It's not perfect but works well and is pretty safe. If not climbing or at a fire, I usually just use a fanny pack and carry my clipboard. I usually wear cargo type pants so you have the pockets to hold your stuff when needed.

Go To Lowes or Home Depot, They have a multitude of small tool pouches that hook on you pocket or belt. Got one for a cellphone that works good for a camera, another that holds my laser, flashlight, pencil, and room for more. I stick my clipboard in my pants in back, or under my arm.

Bob, apparently Larry, Janice, and I went to the same school, LOL. We carry a notebook that tucks in the back of the pants. We don't need a claim file to carry with us. It stays in the truck. We tried the clipboard trick with a lanyard and put rubber bands around it so the paper would not blow out, but that was a PIA. What we do now has worked well for a number of years. When we carry the camera on a strap while egressing and digressing from a roof, we swing the camera to our backs so it will not be banging on the ladder.

Yep, that's where I got my older tool belt and it worked good for everything but the clipboard.

Gotcha. I think I have more baggage than most people... Moisture probes and who knows what else hanging off my tool belt.

Plus when I am done with the initial "inspect and photo" I bring out a heavy tri-pod with laptop and do the Xactimate Sketch on site if at all possible, and figure my carpet cuts on site if at all possible. I do a sort of rough handwritten diagram just to have a place to scribble the room dimensions before entering them into the computer, and seem to need full sized paper for that, full sized clipboard.

I keep getting these houses with modern architecture, rooms aren't square, open floor plans with complex ceilings, and I just need a lot of real-estate to scribble on and do my scope notes.

David, this is Chris from Customtoolbelt. First the belts are warranted against any sewing defect or even if you wear out any pouch on the belt. No questions asked 'lifetime warrantee' free replacement as long as you own the belt.  Please call me at 888-936-8424 to set up free replacement of any defective items. Second, the belts do not have a water bottle holder so I would like to talk to you about the intended functions of each pouch and possible suggestions for future revisions.

Since I posted om 04-08 . You have sent me a new belt and I thank you. I still have the old belt to send back to you per your request when I got the new belt. I am sorry I have not done it yet... I keep forgetting.. Anyway. I will start thinking about ideas for future models. You do stand behind your product with no questions asked which is a great thing in todays business world .I know another adjustor who I saw last week at a loss and he loves your belt. He put suspenders on his and is very happy with it.

Yep, I still like mine and used it today "Cat-Man-Do" tool belt .

My old tool belt from Home Depot had suspenders, but there was never any place to put my clipboard and acculine.  I find that for me personally, the Cat-man-do belt does not need a suspender, just tossing that opinion out there.  I think the concept Chris has is "fast on and off" with the quick release buckle, and that works for me when I jump in and out of my van.

I use suspenders on mine. I have found it helps my back at the end of the day. Standing in a fire loss scoping all day with the weight of the belt on my hips with a tape measure, smart tool, laser tape measure, 50' tape, camera, flashlight, electronic compass , Etc kills my back by the time I get done. I only use the belt at large fire claims , other claims it is cargo pants/ shorts.
