Hey guys just want to tell you a little about myself.  I own my own construction company for about 6 years now.  I mostly do structual work for other general contractors.  I have my general contractors license and sometimes do remodel and additions.  I worked for pilot during hurricane ike.  It was my first time adjusting.  I drove from orlando florida to dallas, texas, for a 1 week crash course.  Pilot taught me how to use integri claim.  After that I drove to houston and had 60 Claims.  The first week was a little slow for me until I became comfortable with the software.  The second week I was taking off working from 5am to about  9pm.  It started to become easy.  The middle of the third week I had all 60 claims completed.  i made my small erros the first and even the second week.  Anyways I loved the work and I found it like second nature for me.  I know what I am looking at when i'm at a house.  The only thing that was hard was being away from the wife and kids.  A month after i left houston Pilot called me to go to Mobile, AL for a one week class of evaluation.  I passed with a A.  My question is will my construction company be a problem for some insurance companies to hire me.  I am going to take the florida exam in January.  What do you guys think.  I am so glad I found this forum I have been reading here for about 4 months now and have learned so much.  Thank you to everyone who contributes to this forum.  I forgot to mention I do not mind to do cat work again but I really want constant work around my area.

You sound like a smart guy with a good family. I would call on the insurance claim adjusters in your area. Just remember they always need some adjuster that will work off their estimate. Try to get on the contractor list for all the big 4-7 carriers and they will call you to do the work without an adjuster seeing the house.

Do the math if you stay home in bed ever night of the year and take home 50% of the storm gross fee,s You are living well. Work for Pilot on the MONSTER STORMS. but dont let people know you are out of town.....

Thanks Ray. I have never tried to do the construction work for insurance companies. The reason being i always thought about adjusting. The one thing pilot said over and over was not to hand out none of my construction company business cards.

Also, you need to be aware that the laws of certain states will disqualify you as an adjuster if you hold an active contractor's license (I believe Michigan is one example). Know if this is the case before you arrive on site and get that temporary or permanent adjusting license.  And never ever let the contracting business and the adjusting business cross paths. Avoid even the appearance of conflict of interest. Never work as a contractor on a file you or any adjuster who has worked with you have handled.

Don,t worry about an estimating program, let the adjuster use his own program and you agree to it. You may have to write an estimate in SOME program if you become an insurance contractor that is SENT out bu the insurance co. Really 2 ways to get biz from insurance companies.
