Hello fellow piers.  I recently paid the $250 and enrolled with Worley to take the State Farm Cert exam in March.  My 5 years of experience is mainly on the contracting side of things, working closely with adjusters in CAT storms for predominantly hail and wind.  The study guide for the exam is vague at best.  It is obvious that there is a certain techniques or methods that SF uses in calculating measurements.  I am aware that the exam is multiple choice format, but dont know if it is in a format where the answer is an obvious choice or if they try to make it difficult to the "nearest tenth of a measurement"  By this, I mean if the State Farm calculated/expected answer is 355.35 sf of drywall and I calculated 355.40 sf, would test answer options be something like :

    #1

    a. 298.23 sf      b. 315.59sf   c. 355.35sf   d. 376.45sf    with my calc. of 355.40 sf thereby choosing c.

     #2

    a. 355.25sf    b. 355.35sf   c.355.38sf    d. 355.45sf   with my calc. of 355.40 sf second guessing myself

I would appreciate advice as to who or where to go to find out the exact methods that State Farm uses to calculate their measurements.

There's nothing tricky about the Estimatics exam.  The answers aren't fine tuned to the degree of your second example.  The study guide tells you how SF measures a room.  That's how you do it.  You're not a contractor anymore.  Part of the test taking is to see if you can follow directions and that includes what's in the study guide.  Just read the question carefully and do the math and you'll be fine.  One other thing, pay attention in class and ask questions if you have any.

Your Moderator/Instructor will go over "exactly" how State Farm" does estimating and calculations. I have been a contractor for very long time. Get out of that mind set and do "exactly" how SF does it. Give them....what they want, when they want it, and how they want it.

Good luck to all taaking the exam !!
