I have a question to pose to all of the experienced Cat Adjusters and I just want to let you all know up front that I am not a time waster, nor am I looking for a shortcut into the business that involves learning a limited amount of info so I can quickly get started. I know that a career in Cat Adjusting is something that I seriously want to do, and I am willing to put in the work to get there.

My question is: Is there a way to get started by processing Xactimate claims from my home for adjusters that are in the field? And if so, what do I need to do to get started?

Now let me explain. I have 3 children that are all under 3 years old right now, and a husband who works also. Daycare is not an option for me right now simply because it costs too much. I have heard of others doing processing work such as this and since Cat Adjusting is what I want to do but obligations are keeping me at home,  I was wondering if this would be possible for me. Please give me honest answers no matter how much it will cost for training (and I hope to find a person willing to work with someone like me, who doesn't mind hard work and the right training to get started).

Also maybe you all know a better or different way for someone like myself to get started from home. I am open to suggestions.

    Thanks in advance.

Seriously, Storm Trooping and the related functions of the biz are intensive and very time consuming. When the game is solving other peoples bad problems, the distractions of ones family life cannot enter into the picture. When the phone rings, we are gone, physically and mentally. Any contact with ones home life other than a brief call at night is a distraction from the true purpose of helping other people based on the contract they bought, closing the file properly, and getting paid. On the road, it is our time to make the money needed for ones current debts and future financial needs. This is why many Trooper marriages fall apart as the other cannot cope with the ways of the biz.

For those with ambitions to troop yet have kids to raise, I suggest respectfully those ambitions be placed on the shelf till the youngsters are grown. For all the glories we experience, it is a tough life.

I think you ou are better of it will waste your time and $. Call a very large contractor near your home and ask them if they will help you. I think you have about 15 to 20 years before you try this biz. You would have to spend hundreds of $$ on axactimate. Would you charge by the hour, or a % of the claim. Your only chance would be to take the good with the bad work for about 3 times min. wages, keeping a time sheet.

    What experience do you offer?
    Construction?
    Prior estimating?
What kind of product will someone with no experience scoping or writing a loss write?
I would suggest that you get a job working in a carriers office and learn from the inside until the kids are grown.

I'm gonna have to sort of HIJACK this thread now.

It's looking more like we're going to get some work in the next few days. We who get our marching orders are going to be very busy earning the money to pay off our vast credit card bills and will be too busy to help or counsel the many pieces of fresh meat sinking under a load of rejected files and instructions.

The only aid you may get is from someone on a daily rate who is not production motivated and his/her supervisor does not mind you taking time away from him/her for your elemental queries. We have told you all repeatedly the proper ways to earn your way into this business, yet you stubbornly persist to blunder into the fray much like a steer meanders thru the herd to the salt lick . After the storm is over we may get back into the mood to entertain ourselves with your problems. But for now, please seek help elsewhere.
