Gosh, Hail Claims are not science. Either it has hail damages or it doesnt. Of course there will be cuircumstances, For instance Denver, Co. and other midwest reigions, you can not buy a T-Lock Shigle from any supplier, unless you special order, So if there are damages some carrier's prefer to replace the roof.

Me thinks a lot of "jamming" was going on here.

This "RollerDerby" mentality gets old quick.

Well, I for one am glad to have this relatively unknown roofing system brought up for discussion.

I for one also congratulate Mr KoldKing on developing other investments (you guys do know the markup on a cup of coffee, right?).

However, I will say this as far as roofers go, although I have yet to have one try to bribe me, it does seem that 99.999% of the time if they insist on inspecting a roof with me, then I can expect to find anywhere from zero damage to minor damage to light metal.
What I really love are those that believe in what I call "Magic Hail" that somehow does imperceptible (yet catastrophic) damage to the roofing without touching the gutters, vents or flashings.

Ya know, if you keep your wits about you and keep your sense of humor,  you can have a little fun on these "roofer assist" inspections when the damage is very light or non-existent.

I got off a roof in Denver and took my ladder with me.  The roofer had showed up in his Mercedes, sans ladder, sans contract with the insured, sans common sense, sans experience dealing with an Okie adjuster that had seen more hail in the last month that the roofer had seen in his career, sans phone as it was in the aforementioned Mercedes.

He asked me repeatedly to come back to the house and let him down.

He shouldn't have offered what he offered while we both were on the roof.

OK kids, now for the disclaimer.

Leave this one to the experienced Okie adjusters. Don't try this one at home.

Rule #1, never deny a claim while you and the insured are on the roof. (I hate it when the insured follows me up my ladder)

Rule 2  if it's windy tie your ladder. I won't tell you how long the insured and I had to wait until someone saw us.

Rule # 3  When working in the hood, pull the ladder up on the roof with you while you're on the roof, so you still have it when it's time to get back down.

I heard a funny story recently... an adjuster was on the roof w/o tying off his ladder. Ladder fell down in the wind, but fortunately he had his cell phone. He was industrious, and he called Dominos Pizza. He had a pizza delivered to the insured's address (to himself stuck on the roof). He asked the delivery guy to pick up his ladder so he could pay him. That's how he got down...

With all the recent hail storms here in Denver and Pueblo, we get a lot of roofers who hunt for t-locks and have the insured make a claim. They hope to get someone who doesn't know what is hail damage. Although, I do sometimes find legitimate damage, a lot of the time I just find an old roof and lots of blistering.

I just got a claim in the Springs with 25 buildings covered with t-locks. I am hoping it is a "no-brainer."   Just in case, I'll bring my own ladder and bungees.

I told one of those guys that we had a barn full of roll roofing of all colors. We just cut the t-locks we need and pay single shingle price to replace the damaged ones. That's what all the other companies are doing, right? Anyway, it was fun for a moment.

We have 12 inches of snow in our backyard in Boulder now. Tough to do some inspections here.

I live down the road in Morrison. I just shoveled at least 12, probably more, from my driveway. They are saying to expect the same for tomorrow. No problem, it will probably be 85 over the weekend and everything will be clear by Monday. Meanwhile, get your skis tuned and think about the freshies!

Been here since June, I think I’ll just pack up, head for home (Sierra Nevada’s) get some firewood; a cold case (ten or more); snuggle up in the old recliner with the remote and hibernate for the winter.

Meg, did you make a blank post or do I have a problem with the forum? I have noticed a few blank post the last few days.

Thanks,

Roy
