    I received an alert about another possible round of attacks from hackers.  It appears that the plan is to hack some sites and take advantage of a vulnerability in IE 7 and the beta IE 8, more information can be found here >> http://www.microsoft.com/technet/se...61051.mspx
     
    We have been hit by attackers in the past and have been able stop them before they hacked very many pages of site. Since then we have done a lot of things to reduce the threat and feel that the site is safe from such attacks but will be keeping a close eye out for any attack. If you see anything drop me as soon as you can. 
     
    Here is some information from the people who provide security for the dedicated server that CADO is on;
     
    "The exploit in question relies on the victim surfing to an infected website with a vulnerable browser.  The easiest way to avoid being compromised by this particular vulnerability is to use an alternate to the Internet Explorer browser until Microsoft releases a patch to correct this issue.  The Security team recommends using Firefox version 3 with the noscript module installed.  The noscript module stops all javascript or other browser side executables from running on your system unless you explicitly whitelist a website. "
     
     
    Note: If you use Firefox and the noscript module I wouldn't even visit CADO!  Becuase the noscript module with it's default settings disables all of the javascript and we use javascript so you would not be able to use CADO. You can however change the default settings.

    After having two computers rendered virtually useless by attacks such as these, I finally swore off Internet Explorer. I keep it on the computer for the few sights that require it to work properly (typically vendor websites), but for the vast majority of my "surfing" I use Firefox. Since installing the Firefox browser, I haven't had any of the problems experienced with IE. I have heard of some folks even going to the extreme of using a Linux OS, to ward off attack programs planted by hackers. hats a litte beyond my simple brain, but it may be worth looking into.
