Is anyone from the CADO community going to the Seattle PLRB Convention on 3-22/3-25, or the tWIA conference in Austin that is being held i believe 4-16?  If so, it might be nice to try and get together at them.  Let me know.

I am on the fence about the PLRB. I haven't gone before, so don't know what to expect. It's in my back yard, so I figure I should go, but don't want to pay the expense for minimal reward. I have paid for some conferences and training sessions that made me feel dumber by the end. What is the opinion on the PLRB convention from those who have attended in the past?

I have gone to one of the prior PLRB conventions in 1995, and it was geared toward catastrophe claims. I felt it was a very well presented convention with very informative break out sessions. As for it being worth the cost, I can't say as there was no cost to me (free to member companies) and my employer paid the hotel, food, travel, etc. It was also in New Orleans which is (was) a great place for a convention. This one looks like there are some very good break out sessions to attend, but it depends on your interests. If it is strictly cat claim handling, then there may not be enough to make you happy. If overall property work plus cat work gets you going, there is plenty and if those items, plus law and casualtyall have interest to you, you will have trouble picking what your priorities are in picking sessions. The cost is pricey, you will get cresit hrs out of a lions share of the sessions, but it will be more then getting CE credits from the computer. You will get a lot more education from the convention then you could ever hope to get from the puter. Also, there are all the major vendors/IA companies there to network with.

Those were my hopes. I've gone ahead and registered, and I will be there. I haven't been on a CAT since 2005, and a lot of the classes look like they can address issues we run into with the daily claims. The networking is usually the best thing to come out of most of these conferences, which is why I was can't really find a reason NOT to go. Who knows if I'll ever have a large conference in my back yard again. There is not a lot of independent adjusting that goes on out here, and I'm happy any time training comes to me, rather than my having to go to it.

I appreciate your input, Steve. The veteran adjusters on this site really do a credit to the newer adjusters who are smart enough to pay attention.

Nathan, checking all of the major software companies it looks like Xactware, IntegriClaim MSB and others have links on their websites (even Symbility is hosting an exhibit booth ) for sessions they are hosting prior to the conference with registration links up on their sites (training links) you might want to get registered for to obtain the most benefit on the investment you just made.

    Steve:

I will be at both events. Please stop by our booth at PLRB. It would be a pleasure to meet you.
