The book is available when you take the class but having the book wont get you work.
I just completed the certification... and it was painful... I could have TAUGHT the class easily.
BUT... knowing the material doesnt get you anywhere.
Some carriers/IA Firms give roof adjustments preferentially to HAAG Certified adjusters.
That is the issue I have been up against here... I guess I will find out if the certification is worth the money soon enough.
One thing to keep in mind while attending the training... or speaking to anyone who has... is that HAAG and insurance adjusters are looking for two seperate standards.
HAAG is looking for "Functional Damage" and carriers owe for "Direct Physical Damage"... Never think that the two are the same thing!!!
By the standard of "Functional Damage" a car that has been pounded by hail till it looks like a golfball would still not likely meet the test of "Functional damage"

But... The HAAG class and certification are great for people who dont have the roofing background that I have I suppose. They cover a TON of stuff.

The class I was in had 70 attendees... that comes to just over $60,000 that HAAG made off of THAT class...
Then they have you pay $100 per year to KEEP the certification...
Then after 5 years you have to take the class again at full cost.
That means that HAAG is making approximately $100,000 from the class that I attended over the 5 year course and then they want to start the cycle over again.
Multiply that by the number of classes they give per year...
And the commercial class which costs even more...
They certainly have the money making part of the certification figured out.

Considering they charge approximately $2,000 per roof inspection that THEY do I guess they know what greed is all about.
Dont let them tell you that roofers are the greedy ones!!

Did "I" learn much from the class? NO
Would "Most people" learn a bunch from the class? yes... probably

And if you have to have the certification to get more work what'cha gonna do right??

I have never been ask if I have a Haag roof certification in over 40 years. Seems I have not lost any work and I don,t believe I will get any work if I have it. I got certified in California  for earthquake in 7 hours just like several thousand other adjusters in 1994. I have not used it since. These certifications are BS for the training schools, they cost, but don,t pay any return.

Over half of our adjusters are HAAG certified and we absolutley have carriers who request and ONLY will use HAAG certified adjusters. Does the carrier and Haag have some kinda backdoor handshake thing going on?? wouldnt suprise me and I'm no advocate of the outragous price they charge even though the class offers a wealth of information. The renewal fees and 5 year expiration are crazy, i expect another form of this certification will come about and probably be half as much but until then.... its a necessary evil and again you work two claims it pays for itself, but there is for a fact carriers who are showing preference to haag adjusters as there whether you learn anything or not. 75% of carriers payouts are roofs, anything that will save them money they are going to go for and if a silly certificate keeps us working instead of someone else... so be it.
