Has anyone installed Xactimate 24 on a Vista machine using the work around?  I am curious as to how many problems it will present.  The Xactimate site says that it is available, but has not been tested.  My old computer is barely hanging on, and I have a new computer, but I don't want to switch over if it is going to cause more problems and slow me down.

Split your hard drive and install Office XP Professional on your new lap top, Save the Vista side for the future, when Microsoft works out the kinks, or just clean off the hard drive and load XP. Non of the carriers are jumping on Xactmate 25, you still have a few years on 24.

Nathan, give Xactimate a call. Last week I spent an hour at the Xactimate booth at the ACE claims conference because ACE was a no show (375 showed up I was told). There were like only 5-10% of the chairs filled in any event that I saw and the tradeshow hall was empty except for vendors. It is to be in Orlando next year I read but if the event is as mismanaged as it was in Vegas it will be a waste of vendors’ money. It cost is the same as the PLRB or RIMS where they will have 10-20 times as many people attending. Well the good part was the vendors had time to visit with each other.

Back to your question, I did hear a few come by the Xactimate booth that said they had 24 running on Vista and I think that has been stated on this forum. They were also telling some that 25 will be out next month. If the hurricanes some there will be thousands of CAT adjusters showing up with Vista as their only option for the storm season for the very reason you just stated. There has not been much news about MSB/IC lately that I have read but I think the rest of the estimating software packages are good to go on Vista so go straight to the horse’s mouth. Vista is here and not going away for five years.

I have installed Xactimate version 24.9 on three laptops so far using the work around. It works and the users did not have any problems using Xactimate. After the install with 24.9 we upgraded the laptops to the latest version which also worked.

One problem that I did run into was related to a backup on a XP laptop.  The adjuster wanted to get a new computer but had some active files.  His old laptop was a XP laptop with Xactimate version 24.12 installed.  We did a back-up of Xactimate on the XP laptop, installed Xactimate on the Vista laptop upgraded the Xact install to the same version on the XP laptop that created the backup and tried a restore of the backup on the Vista laptop. It failed.  The Xact install on the XP laptop was using MSDE and the install on the Vista laptop uses MS SQL 2005, which could be the reason the restore failed.
