A friend of mine has recently returned from an adjusting stint in south Florida, and had quite a few stories of IA's who really knew their way around the building trades, and could scope a loss quickly, but were so hampered by their ineptness with computers that they were just not getting claims closed. He is of the opinion that, for these guys/gals, a rent-a-partner would be welcomed with open arms. Now, it may be that everyone here is quite accomplished with computers in general and with today's adjusting s/w, so I might be asking this question in the wrong place. But... if someone could handle all of the paperless end of things for these folks, would they be interested enough in increasing their closing rate that they would share a percentage for the service? You could set up in an affected area after a storm, do the computer work for the technophobic-but-solid adjusters, and not do the slogging and sliding around. Basically, you could be a virtual partner for the t'phobic types who are not fortunate enough to have a wife or hubby back in the RV doing the keyboard work for them. If you think this is a legitimage need, what do you think those adjusters would be willing to pay? I'm not talking about serving people who can only be sped up by 10%. I mean the folks who can't keep up at all with the quotas that the vendors are placing on them, and need to double, triple (or more) their output to stay viable.

I have often wondered why I have been doing this since 1998 "Georges". Plus having 2 telephone operators to make contact, schedule appointments, take all calls and of course a ladder humper? Guess It made sense then as it does now. Thats not to say that having 5 laptops, 6 PC's and a server do not help, and being involved with computers since 1979 has been helpful, it's just that it is the most efficient, effective way to do business.

There are some people doing that. An adjuster could afford to share a percentage in a situation where more work is available, like a large hurricane. In a 75 claim hailstorm, probably would not be cost effective.

Most of the large carriers and thier vendors will not permit any person other than the assigned adjuster to have any "dealings" with an insured, contractor etc. They all have very good valid reasons and are justified in this stance. On the other hand 04 and 05 and possibly for several years the face of catastrophe adjusting must change. It appears the solution has to come in the form of a split in the road, right or left. Right split. Have your best talent scoping the loss only and having strong support on all other aspects of completing the claim. Left split. Let you best talent supervise others and sign off on the final product. Left appears to be the best road to take; however this is up to the insurance carriers.
