In this thread we will provide a sample assignment which will be completed online. The information related to the risk and DOL are fictional however, the policy and endorsements are real.   We plan to do this for flood and earthquake losses as well. We will only be using resources that can found on the web. One objective of this exercise is to promote discussion related to file handling and hopefully in the end have a file completed using best practices. We may be looking for volunteers to serve as the insured, contractor, re inspector and examiner. I have created some online to tools like CADOgrams and a Building valuation tool (beta) and have additional tools in the works to aid with this assignment.

Scenario: you have been deployed to Texas to handle claims from TS Bertha which hit the Texas coast south of Corpus Christi on 7/1/2008.  Before you arrive on site you will need to review the policy and endorsements.

    DOL 7/1/2008

    Cause of Loss: TS Bertha

Risk: Loss information including photos and a diagram of a fictional risk will be provided as we move forward. Links to them will be posted here.

    Insured: Joe and Mary Insured

Policy >> Dwelling Windstorm Policy Effective dates; 11/1/2007 - 11/1/2008

    Endorsements >> TWIA 320, TWIA 365, TWIA 431

    Limits; Dwelling $220,000.00 80% coinsurance, $500.00 deductible Contents: $140,000.00 Deductible: $320.00

Mortgagee: First National Bank of Texas

I have put this on hold for now.  I'm working on a Wiki section of the site that I believe will work better for the sample assignments.  And it should make it easier for collaboration. I will post additional information on the Wiki area once it is ready.

In the meantime, we made our 24 hour contact and submitted our 72 hour/15 day/30 day reports.  Joe & Mary wait patiently in the stable for their ALE check to arrive so they can check into a nice motel.

Mike I have blamed my boss for me not being able to keep my appointment, and the insured became very indignant and wanted to know who my idiot boss was and I would not tell him. He then yelled at me to never set foot on his property or to send my idiot boss out.

Please give this assignment to some other old geezer, I would like the money, but I dont need the grief. Thanks for thinking of me.. Ray

You guys have way too much time on your hands.......You responses remind me of how people start to talk/act when a severe case of cabin fever sets in way up north when you can't get out and have real contact with humans. Hope some storms break soon to save what little sanity you may still possess!!!

I think the new area will work well for this project, you can see it here.  Visitors can follow the changes by clicking on the "Recent Changes" link.  For example "Loss Notice" is currently listed as a recent change,  if you follow the link you will see the Loss Notice.   I plan to setup this area to allow others to edit and\or add content.  For example, someone can add a report and the file reviewer or supervisor could review it and make notes to it  online. (red ink optional)
