Dale said the Bloomington, Ill.-based insurer agreed to send new teams of adjusters to work on the cases in Mississippi's six southernmost counties. State Farm is to report its findings back to Dale's office in 30 days.
Dale said it is "unacceptable" that many slab claims remain unresolved 18 months after the storm.
"The company must be able to prove to the Mississippi Insurance Department that the damage was caused by water and not by wind," Dale said Tuesday. "And what we found is, a number of these slab cases they cannot prove that it was strictly, completely destroyed by water. And so for that reason, we have requested that they go back and readjust these claims." State Farm spokesman Phil Supple said the company intends to give Dale the information requested. Supple said many slab claims already have been resolved through the Mississippi Insurance Department's mediation program.
