Yes, friends, it can happen here and has been happening for many years.

Go to the Dakotas and look at the conditions the native Americans are living in...........the squalor, broken houses, no roads, no schools, no health services, and a government that could care less. The same thing in Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Florida, the Carolinas, Arizona, New Mexico, New York state.........probably in every state in the union.

Katrina losses get the headlines, as they should.

There's families in the Appalachia's that get 2 or 3 hot meals a week.

My point is (you knew I'd eventually get there) is that there are problems everywhere. We, as a nation, have chosen to look the other way. To look at the clouds in the sky rather than the dirt at our feet.

'Scuse me now ..............I have to go polish the wheels on my Dodge Hemi Quad Cab.

I, at this point in society, am more proud to call myself a Native American, due to the Indian heritage that was created for me by my ancestors. 1492 was the beginning of the end of cultural Indian existance. We, since 1492, have pillaged, raped, murdered, tortured, stolen their land, and destroyed the will of our native americans until they are forced to relay on government subsidey just to exist. We sit around and do nothing about it when we could be helping so many people that want and need help, not hand outs, help.

I am very familiar with the Cajun boat people. I had met several of them years ago when an airplane crashed into the water near their little town and got to know several very well, to the extent we became friends. Unfortunately they have passed on, so I have lost touch with the village. They are an extroadinarily outgoing and caring group. Once you become their friend, they would do anything for you, literally. I hate to see their demise and hate the beaucratic way they are being treated. They, like the indian culture, are being weeded out,  one by one, and we allow this to happen. Shame on us, shame on us.

Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.

I agree with Larry. What our government (by extention, us) has done in the past with sub groups is not something to be proud of. The Cub Scouts visited the Trail of Tears memorial last fall in Hopkinsville, KY. I was sadden by the experience. They for the most part had accepted our ways and religions and we still crushed them. The vote in the Senate to do this carried by the margin of one (1) vote.
