The Wolf Creek Dam is just two miles upriver from my in-laws.  While the Corps of Engineers and others have known about this problem for at least ten (10) years, it recently warranted elevated attention to its potential collapse due to the levee failures in New Orleans.

Like earthquakes, this appears to be the next biggest disaster that is inevitably pressing on the matter of "when"- not "if".  However, the Army Corps of Engineers is working hard to correct the problem and remove the possibility of this dam's collapse.  Here's the story:  New York Times.
