Do you have to have them withhold or can you opt to handle your own taxes at year end?
Why don't you just get in touch with them and ask them your questions directly? Doesn't that seem like a more reasonable and accurate way to find out the answers to such questions?

And why is that sad? Pilot is about as good as it gets. |

Why? Uncle Sam on your tail for ignoring his requests for your money in previous years? |

I don't think you have Pilot as an option anymore. |

It is very easy to get sidetracked on these forums as anyone who has posted much knows by now, I know I've done it numerous times myself. As for pilot catastrophe I have worked for them quite a bit in the past and they are in excellent company to work for, whether you are a greenhorn adjuster or a seasoned adjuster. As stated before they do all of the tax work for you, which includes paying 50% of the Social Security tax out of their own pocket, have a 401(k) program with a company sponsored match, have direct deposit set up for your paycheck, pay every two weeks irregardless of whether they have been paid on an invoice, and have a cafeteria plan for things such as out-of-pocket medical and daycare expenses. They also have a very strong field support system set up (at least on the Allstate side of the) that can be invaluable, especially to some of the less experienced adjusters who have more questions on procedures and estimating. Their pay structure is fairly competitive especially when considering all of the perks as mentioned above. One other nice component, although it is probably getting more and more common, is the fact that when you get your assignments they are automatically downloaded into your computer and set up into the estimating software program and ready to work, without having to do all that data entry yourself. |

If you keep receipts and have lots of deductions, you may get a refund - which isn't such a bad thing.
I'm speaking for people that file taxes every year. Based on some earlier posts, that may not apply for Roni. |

Consider a couple of things:
1) ently.Being an employee, there might be worker's comp in slow years. I know people that have taken advantage of this rec *** whistle blower***
2) They also offer a 401K plan that they match a portion of. I still have mine.
Haven't worked for them in years, but some things about being W2 are not all bad.

This is actually a very legitimate question as not everyone falls in the jurisdiction of the federal government and is required to pay a tax on wages. Therefore keeping receipts and having lots of deductions is not a necessary endeavor. Did you know the there is a US Supreme Court case that defines income as "gain on capital"? Since your labor is your property, it is not taxable. |
