Has anyone had any experience with this?  For example you have fire damage to a home with light smoke damage.  Take the Floor SF of a room times 1.35 light/1.50 med/ 1.75 heavy soot.  This includes cleaning all walls, ceilings, doors, windows, trim.  I have noticed almost all of the vendors in the Houston area going to this.  At first I thought it was because the vendor would make more money this way, so I did some comparative estimates of line item vs. SF.  SF is almost always the same or less than line item cleaning in Xact.  There are also pricing schemes of PO and contents cleaning by the SF.  Thanks in Advance!

I would guess that the restroation/ pack out company figured out that the SF price would be faster to enter and would result in the same costs. There by saving time at a loss out having to write a line item scope of work

Estimating is living on the edge between greed and fear

Do not get me started on this subject. If your insurance carrier will allow you to abdicate the adjusters job to a remediation contractor who uses a "measurable unit" of square foot, cubic foot or per item...... and will allow you to bill on the gross loss with all this fluff in the total go for it as the more it cost the more you make. BUT MOST will pay this amount direct to the vulture.. oops ; vendor and cut you out of the large gross loss. Also remember if it comes out of a certain data base, its accurate by zip code, local conditions, building codes, and the national association of water suckers as the infallible word not to questioned by a field inspector for an insurance company who call themselves adjusters.

Thanks for the responses!  I was wondering more about the accuracy of SF pricing as compared to line item pricing in Xact.  Does anyone have any info as to how the SF pricing was derived?  I'm not so much concerned about the billing aspect of it as I am now a staff adjuster.  Used to work daily claims for Cunningham when I first started out though.

"Just goes to show PA's aren't worth what they think they are. If they were.... they would be real adjusters."

Do you feel better now?
