Im sure the news coverage has reached most adjusters.  Although we make our living from damage caused by storms we never want to see injury or loss of life.  I live within an hour of the damage and had suspicious weather pass over my house.

Despite the amount of damage, I have heard nothing of deployment from insurance companies.  Hopefully Fema will help out as well, but we should be out on the ground inspecting these losses and helping the survivors to get thier lives back together.

The deployment should start this week, toward the middle of the week, if there is to be a significant deployment.

Personally, I never pray for a storm.  I only pray that when a disaster strikes, I am given the opportunity to be part of the solution.

Thanks Roy for the updates.  At this point claim counts and deployments seem trivial in the wake of all the destruction and misery that this storm system has caused.  Even though I have been in the business for 25+ years I always try to remember that we are there to serve, not merely make money.  I am proud of what we do, and I know we will all step up to the plate and do whatever is necessary to help these poor people get their lives back together.  Remember, a warm smile, caring attitude and genuine sympathy will help people see us in a diferent light.  Everyone take care.

Steve and Tim, nice posts. I hope that all feel that way. I have always felt that way, in that we are in this business to help others in their time of need. Thats the one thing that has kept me going all these years. Of course it is nice to be able to be paid to do this, after all, we have families to support and if we could not support ourselves we would not be there to help others.

This is truly a sad story with the fatalities involved. I pray that all the families will be in peace and am truly sorry they lost love ones. Many survived, but their lives have been torn apart with losses of their homes and personal items. I hope they get their lives back very soon.
Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.

I'm just oh so thankful that I don't live an hour and a half south.  Few people called me the next day and asked if we were okay.  I was confused as I wasn't aware of the news and had been on my porch the night before and it seemed like another regular rainy night.  Those of you who come down here, be safe.

I just got back from The Villages. I had 15 claims. Several severly damaged and some home inspections for snowbirds. I have never really seen anything quite like it. Imagine a tornado IN your bedroom.

On the Florida tornado losses this will be a good test of outside inspectors and inside adjusters. I would guess most of the total and constructive totals have been adjusted by this time.

Currently working the tornados here in FL. Although the claim volume is low compared to other events, the damage is extensive in many areas. It has been a good opportunity to slow down and show some compassion and extend quality service to these homeowners. Although this is a "smaller" event for Cat Adjusters, it has been a big, big media event. I can't tell you how many media helicopters and news crews are here.

I must say that FEMA seems to be out in force and trying to better their post-Katrina reputation.
