I don't understand why everyone gets so upset when someone says they want to be a cat adjuster.  I am in the construction trade and will become a cat adjuster once my cousin teaches me how.  It can't be that hard because he says he measures roofs, types on his computer for a few hours and makes $3,000 a day!  By my calculations, if you only work 200 days a year, that's $750,000 a year.!!!!!  Isn't there enough money to go around for all of us.  I certainly wouldn't complain if I made that kind of dough....which is what I am going to do.  See you guys out there!  Any advice to get me started.  I think I'll be okay with my costruction knowledge.  Thanks!!!!

Mr. Glasgow yes I have some good advice for you. Forget the notion that you're construction skills will get you by in this industry. I had 9 years of both residential and commercial construction experience when I worked my first storm in 99. Nearly 7 years later I am still trying to learn and adjust to the constant changes and gather all of the help and resources I can.

That is exactly why this industry has taken a black eye over the last few years. Numerous tales of easy money and diamonds and gold are simply put worthless pipe dreams. If you really feel that all it takes to be successful is to be able to measure roofs and punch computer keys you are in for a rude awakening.

In the past I have posted threads on this site that were seen by a few as off topic. While my post may have been off topic a thread such as this one is pure garbage. Several months back post were deleted and hands were slapped all in the name of censorship. In my opinion if there ever was a need to delete a thread here is a golden moment.

Throw this succer to the trash bin and save everyone the risk of elevated blood pressure!

There I feel better now!

03/08/2007 8:42 PM   … I am in the construction trade and will become a cat adjuster once my cousin teaches me how.

03/08/2007 11:23 PM      I appreciate all the feedback from my fellow adjusters!!!

Apparently, that cousin of yours is a crackerjack...it takes most people more than 3 hours to become an "adjuster"! In fact, it seems that the industry standard is 3 days!

...$3,000 a day!  By my calculations, if you only work 200 days a year, that's $750,000 a year.!!!!!    Any advice to get me started [?]

My advice would be to buy a new calculator. And perhaps find a different fantasy.

John,

I usually just ignore posts like yours, but as a moderator, I guess I can't.

Do you really think you are going to go into this business and make $750,000.00 a year? Does that seem reasonable or likely to you?

As you can see from the responses, something about your post is seen as insulting. If I were going to ask for advice on getting started, I wouldn't begin by insulting those I intended to ask.

My advice to you on getting started is always read the instructions given to you for handling the claim. If you had read the instructions for Catastrophe Central, you would see that getting started threads are no longer allowed in Catastrophe Central. If you have getting started questions and can ask them respectfully, feel free to do so over in the getting started area in the community forums.

I welcome you to come back after you have actually made $750,000.00 a year for a couple years to write a book and plug it here on CADO. Until then, maybe a little discretion is in order.

I'm locking this thread.

Mr. Glasgow:

With your winning attitude I'm sure you're going to be an overnight success in this business.  I see by your comment "It can't be that hard" that you're on top of things and might I suggest that you align your self with "Adjuster Cindy" and make yourself a "rich cat adjuster" overnight, as you seem to have found out the secrets of the business.

Your suggestion that there would be much less "Hostility" if  we would just stop by the "Strip Joints" is one I'm sure everyone here will take into serious consideration, and I'm sure we all thank you for such a novel idea.  How could any of the experienced, knowledgeable adjusters here ever have gotten through their 10, 20 or 30 yr career in adjusting without your brilliant suggestions as to how to reduce the stress and hostility??? And the "backroom" suggestion is one for the books.

Sir, you have a lot to learn before you ever are able to be a success in anything in life.  The people I've come to know in the cat adjusting industry are some of the most intelligent, articulate, knowledgeable and qualified people I've ever met.  The ones I've met are kind, caring and dedicated individuals, who are committed to doing the best adjusting job of their ability and also interested in helping those who show their commitment to the industry.

But when someone comes in and insults the profession by suggesting that "it can't be that hard" and then insults the adjusters by suggesting that they would be less hostile if they "went to a strip joint" deserves any hostility that's tossed their way.  I'd say "How dare you" but I'm sure that point would be missed on you.

May I suggest that you study some of the self help books such as "How to win friends and Influence People" before you ever consider doing any job that requires you to meet with the public or have anything to do with your fellow man.

Do the right thing, ALWAYS
~Meg~
