I know many of you out there like me have been following the hurricane forecast or swags.   Is it me or are we tracking the storms a lot sooner than we use to.  Remember the gulf storm a week ago, it was being tracked long before there was anything to see, and there wasn't much to see when it did form. Or did it form?

Anyway, I found this information on methods to destroy hurricanes.  I noticed that one method was missing,  "wind shear",  it seems that this should be the tool to harness because it has brought death to many storms and continues to terrorize the storms out there now.

Seven ways to destroy a hurricane.

1. seeding them with silver iodide ?
2. placing a substance on the ocean surface ?
3. nuking them ?
4. adding water absorbing substances ?
5. cooling the surface waters with icebergs or deep ocean water?
6. harnessing their energy ?
7. other means ?

1. Has been tried but a number of storms made sudden turns hiting Cuba and Mexico, was not popular.
2. Possible polution, damage to ocean life, unexpected changes to ocean temp.
3. LOL, outside the obvious polution, a hurricane releases the engery of a Nuke every few minutes
4. Ref: Dynastorm. If only we had 240,000 cargo jets handy when needed.
5. Obvious ecological dangers. There is a plan for upwelling cold water that involves 30 floating nuclear plants with giant pumps, just what we need of off Miami with a Cat 4 heading in (would Homeland Security get excited?)
6. Not with any known current technology.
7. In summary hurricanes help cool the tropics, if we prevent them, then we have to invent a way to transfer tropical heat north.

Scientists a step closer to steering hurricanes

Scientists have made a breakthrough in man's desire to control the forces of nature – unveiling plans to weaken hurricanes and steer them off course, to prevent tragedies such as Hurricane Katrina....

Personally method #2 in this article makes a lot of sense. I expect in the next 20 years the science to "manage" hurricanes will come on line. The rewards will be great enough to encourage this and by then most CAT adjusters will be happy because they will be too old to work and have retired on the coast.

Just finished reading about this, basicly they plan to dump Carbon Black in the air. One alternative would be a fleet of ships to burn oil to create a cloud of Carbon Black.  This would unravel the storm and weaken and/or redirect. Wonder how many ships this would require and how many tankers of oil< and how much polution. Even if the redirected a hurricane from Miami, into Savana, I wonder if anyone would sue? I agree they will try to control the wether soon, with interesting results. Likely as many sucesses as disasterous results.

The oly issue noone mentions is how much much dust? We all had a good chuckle at Dyna-storm and there plans to drop goop on a storm. It was calulate that they would need about 300,000 palne loads.  Would they need more dust then that? There would be a limited opertunity to deliver all the product needed,  the aircraft would have to be specially fitted cargo planes, maybe (due to time requirements)  50,000 planes? 

Disastrous results can happen when man tries to play God.
