Statement from NHC

 

AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE...ASSOCIATED WITH THE REMNANTS OF FORMER EASTERN PACIFIC TROPICAL STORM ALMA...IS CENTERED OVER THE GULF OF HONDURAS NEAR THE COAST OF NORTHERN BELIZE. THE LOW IS MOVING SLOWLY WESTWARD...AND THE CENTER IS EXPECTED TO MOVE INLAND OVER THE YUCATAN PENINSULA DURING THE NEXT FEW HOURS. HOWEVER... SATELLITE IMAGERY AND SURFACE OBSERVATIONS INDICATE THIS SYSTEM IS BECOMING BETTER ORGANIZED...AND A TROPICAL DEPRESSION COULD FORM IF THE CENTER REMAINS OFFSHORE THIS MORNING. ...

It made it to TS strength, it's now TS Arthur.

REPEATING THE 200 PM EDT POSITION...18.3 N...88.6 W. MOVEMENT
TOWARD...WEST-NORTHWEST NEAR 8 MPH. MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS...40
MPH. MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE...1005 MB.

Check the Cane Page or the NHC for additional details. I don't think anyone expects this TS to do anything but bring some rain it just seems news worthy because Hurricane season starts tomorrow.

OOPPSS Maybe a sign for this season. Jumped from an invest to a named storm as it made landfall. A suprise storm, although it is destined to be a Mexican storm only. What a surprise when I got back in today.
