Ok, I'll bite. I want to know what covered peril in your standard ISO form policy would trigger the allowance of pressure washing the fungus off a roof.
Trader brought this up in another thread and after Steve indicated that there were over 40 articles out there about pressure washing roofs, this subject would suffice for a separate thread.
My first reaction to this repair is to know if this is even a repair to begin with? Wouldn't you tear up your asphalt or fiberglass shingles in the process? I know you'd want to turn it on light pressure, but if its hard enough to break off fungus, it should be hard enough to out-blast a Cat 1 Hurricane or a hail storm with pea sized hail. In the process, you'd be chipping off all your granules.
It seems to me that Trader has successfully created a trick question for his trainee... |

I'm not sure I follow, worminest? You had a legitimate question, Ray, about the pressure wash item in Xactimate. Xactimate is the ideal software for restoration contractors across the US for its extremely thorough database. It even has a price to replace a donut machine.
I hope you didn't take me the wrong way about my asking about the pressure washing of the roof. If there truly are some policies out there that allow the pragmatic inclusion of such a line item, I want to know about it. I am usually pretty good about finding coverage and this is because experienced adjusters such as yourself have taken the time to share that info. |

I wasn't familiar with that term either. Googled it with no exact match, but it did lead me to several other terms, which then led to Kevin Bacon, which then led to "sudden & accidental" formation of roof fungi, which then becomes a covered peril.  |

I, too, did a google search of "worminest". It was the first time I've ever not got at least 40 articles for a search. So I thought about it!
1. Wormin: as in Global Wormin! Worminest: that part of the roof closest to the sun, subject to thermal damage.
2. Then I considered the question I "bit" into with an answer. I think maybe it had a "worminest" I think "est" is Latin for "it" or "it is".
3. Finally, I realized "worminest" might be XM8 code for "High pressure powerwash for composition shingles suddenly damaged by fungi."

Sorry the word is worm and a real dumb statement made by a worm is a wormy statement and it would seem the top of the order of the worms statements would be the "wormiest". |

That was a pretty good one, Trader! But I'm still wondering just a lttle bit...was there really a roof power-washing going on, or did I catch you on the "hidden quiz"? Previous post: The Great State of Texas.
I've heard about them Texas policies covering stuff that nowhere else does, but fill me IN!!
Even the Texas roofing salesmen haven't presente that one to me up here in the mid-plains. |

First bite, you find a worm. A few more bites, the worm disappears.
How about WTR EXTSA : Includes: cost to extract Category 3 or contaminated water with sludge or solid materials from floor. Note: examples of Category 3 water include; sewage and toilet backflows; river, stream, and seawater flooding; and sources with toxic pesticides or heavy metals. Typically Category 3 water is extracted, then the carpet is removed and disposed of.
We might have to pay a little extra since there is so much of that muck. Fortunately, the insured and his brother-in-law are WTR LABA "Water Extraction & Remediation Technicians" working after hours for $47.00 an hour.
Now what is the XM8 code for that "new technology" that will save the white carpet beneath the red river muck?

I did see the results of a roof washed with bleach a couple of years prior to Katrina by a homeowner in New Orleans. Close to zero granules left. No leaks to the roof after Katrina though... I'd be hesitant to recommend washing the roof after seeing how badly the granules disappeared on a roof that was supposedly only about 12 years old. |
