I just started using Xactimate a couple of months ago (Have used integri for years)  Why is it so hard to draw a roof using this thing?  I have found it virtually impossible to draw a steep cut up roof.  My buddy works for Farmers and said they just scan their drawing into the system.

Why doesn't Xactimate change sketch when one of the largest carriers in the nation has to have their adjusters scan handwritten diagrams into their claims?

I think it may be harder for some people to learn to use a scanner than for some to learn how to draw a roof with Xactimate. I tried to teach my Uncle how to use his new scanner and I finally gave up and told him to call me when he wants something scanned and I would do it for him. I have had an easier time showing some people how to draw roofs with Xactimate.

I really believe that if you take the time to learn Xactimate properly, it is not that hard draw roofs. I have worked with several different software programs over the years and some were easier to learn than others. Some I could figure out all by myself. Some I could buy a book and use it to figure the program out. Some I had to have someone show me. Drawing a roof with Xactimate is as simple as dropping a roof on the Sketch screen, dimensioning it, and then putting breaks and pulling out each cutout. I have seen a lot of people have problems when they try to drop a new roof on for each cutout instead using the break and CTRL key.

I have seen people who had been on very few roofs learn how to look at a roof diagram and draw it with Xactimate in just a short time. The key is getting the right instruction. Sometimes the way a certain program works is just kind of intuitive for some folks, and the same program is not for someone else. One person is not smarter or dumber than the other, they just see the program differently. Again, the key is the right instruction. I think Xactimate made drawing roofs pretty easy once you get the concept of how to do it. It is different than Integri or any other program.

Think about it, was Integri really that easy the first time you ever saw it? Is someone willing to invest the time, money, and whatever it might take to learn the new program. With as much as Xactimate is being used I really believe we need to invest in ourselves and learn how to use it.

Xactimate is basically craptimate compared to Simsol or MSB. The best thing about Xactimate is it's pricing schedule. I am having problems with Xactnet files because I have to close the file to open another file to find a roof or room or item I have used and need for the current file. Xactimate doen't put all the items you find on a roof under RFG. When I've used macros with sketch, the items populate, but then when I try to change a type of shingle I have to start over. If it's a cut and dry easy file, I will use the sketch for a room or roof. If it gets complicated I just place everything in the room and do the states with a calculator, but not in the sketch.
I disagree about the ease of use for Xactimate over the other programs. I hope 25 is better, but I don't want to change over to vista, as Microsoft has a reputation for releasing a program before the bugs are worked out. 98 was never a good program. We use 2000 at my Spa because it works and we don't have any issues with it. I know I will have to go with vista sooner or latter, but I will probably download xp professional on my next laptop, and stick with 24 for as while.
