Insurance Carrier Changes Water Damage Coverage

"Allstate was the one company that was the exception to this rule. Any water that comes in contact with the ground and then enters the home is classified as 'ground water', according to Allstate. This is reason enough for them to deny a claim. Other insurance companies view the sprinklers as part of the plumbing of the home, and would extend coverage if a sprinkler pipe broke and caused damage to the inside of the home, provided the water entered through a window well or stairwell and not through the foundation."

Hundreds of earthquakes hit Nevada, intensify

Source: USA Today

A swarm of hundreds of earthquakes in Nevada has intensified recently, prompting experts to warn people to be ready in case larger ones hit.

Starting in July, some 750 earthquakes, mostly magnitude 2.0 to 3.0, have struck a corner of the Nevada desert near the Oregon border, according to several reports. Scientists believe groundwater is slowly percolating along the faults and building up pressure, making movement on the faults much easier, the Los Angeles Times reported.

It can take just one major storm to cause severe property damage, and we urge you to be prepared.”

Flooding in Canada

"Heavy rainfall over the weekend in southeast Saskatchewan has some communities struggling to keep up with the influx of water.

Up to 15 other communities have also declared states of emergency."

The repair vs replacement debate continues

The repair vs replacement debate continues.

"Wirth said a contractor quoted him $32,000 to repair the entire roof. But his insurance company, American Family Insurance, offered $8,000, telling him it would only repair the shingles that were actually damaged."

"They feel that it can be repaired and new shingles can be blended into old, which is entirely wrong," Wirth said.
